IFC SME Toolkit: Helping Small Businesses in Developing Countries Grow and Succeed

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are key to sustainable economic development, but SMEs face unique challenges that affect their growth and profitability. These challenges limit their ability to contribute effectively to economic growth.

In 2002, IFC created SME Toolkit, which is a product that leverages information and communication technologies to help entrepreneurs, small-business owners and managers start, formalize and grow their businesses in sustainable ways. The program currently operates more than 35 localized websites in 18 languages reaching more than 5 million visitors per year.
